CUSTOM FURNITURE DESIGN

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2022 - 2023

As an assistant project manager at Green Seam Designs in Bozeman, MT, I designed and managed the production of custom furniture pieces for private clients. I took input from our design team, manufacturers, and interior designers in a collaborative effort to make each piece fit the exact need of the client. I oversaw the structural feasibility, buildability, and material cost of every piece I designed. My experience at Green Seam was invaluable, I learned how to design, manage, and communicate in a demanding, time-sensitive setting.

This Office Desk had many constraints, primarily on its slender frame and legs. Our client wanted a large and compact desk with subtle detail. Moreover, the desired curvature and fragility of the legs added complexity to the project that was both challenging and rewarding.

Unlike any other piece I designed, these swivel chairs were a massive undertaking. Composed entirely of curved features, the complex assembly for these chairs yielded a wonderful set of comfortable counter-height swivel chairs for our client’s home.

Designing a steel kitchen hood presented a brand new set of obstacles for me. This was the first design that had to fit within something as well as fitting something within itself. I took measurements from a kitchen range hood that we were designing with, and had to design precisely down to the 32nd of an inch so that the welds and screw heads would work seamlessly with each other. It was a high-stakes design process that represents one of the projects I am most proud of working on at Green Seam.

One of my first projects with Green Seam, this custom banquette interacted with some very complex geometry. Sitting flush with the wall of a circular room, it was my task to design a banquette that satisfied the client’s design aspirations as well as ours. Moreover, it was a fascinating challenge to make this design legitimately buildable. Designed in six separate groups, this banquette was as much an installation project as it was a manufacturing project.
